Bonnie the Collie (from the beginning)
When we saw the hawk in the tree above Bonnie, we realized that we needed to do a better job of preparing the yard so that it's safe for her when she's alone. Sometimes, we want to let Bonnie have some quiet time in a protected place. We have an exercise pen, which is for dogs and folds up nicely when we're not using it. You can buy one at most pet stores. We set ours up in the yard and provided shade by putting an umbrella in the middle of it. This gives Bonnie lots of good shade and protection from any large birds, too. Take that, Mr. Hawk!
If you don't have an umbrella, you can use a sheet, like this.
In the pen, we gave Bonnie a dish of water, some toys, and a rug to lie on. If your puppy chews on rugs, don't leave it with her when she's alone. We never leave Bonnie out very long (15-20 minutes) by herself. Puppies need lots of attention and exercise. When Bonnie comes out of the pen, we run and play and have lots of fun! |
