Welcome to How to Love Your Dog!

New Puppy Blog

Bonnie the Collie (from the beginning)

In a few days, Bonnie will go to the vet and get her last set of puppy vaccinations. That means that in a week, she'll be able to go out for walks and play with other dogs. For the past couple of weeks, I have been thinking about Bonnie's future and what kind of dog I want her to be when she grows up. Here are my goals for her:

• I want Bonnie to be friendly to strangers.
• I want Bonnie to sit politely while being petted.
• I want Bonnie to be groomed and healthy looking.
• I want Bonnie to walk nicely on a leash without pulling.
I want her to turn right and left when I do.
• I want Bonnie to behave and walk nicely through a crowded area.
• I want Bonnie to sit and lie down when I tell her.
I want her to stay when I tell her.
• I want Bonnie to come when I call her.
• I want Bonnie to behave nicely around other dogs.
• I want Bonnie to comfortable around distractions and noises.
• I don't want Bonnie to be upset and nervous when I have to leave her.

In short, I want her to be a good citizen. I'll talk more about how to achieve these goals over the next few weeks.

If I give young Bonnie lots of opportunities to learn,
she will have a very bright future.
